WOODBURY - The Legacy Ridge project is now a go for review by the Village of Woodbury Planning Board. The project received a green light from the Village Board on Tuesday night with the approval of higher-density zoning and designation as a conservation cluster.

Mayor Stephanie Berean-Weeks voted along with Councilmen Neil Crouse and Patrick Kinney for the two designations.

Richard Jackson, who only recently joined the council, abstained from the vote, while Joann Stabile was absent.

The proposal to build a 287 home gated community at the northern end of Woodbury stalled before the Planning Board when the developer sought to build more than the 164 houses allowed under the property's current zoning.

With the approval of higher density and clustering, the village can now continue the site-plan review process. Millenium Homes, the Livingston, N.J., developer building the project, is offering to conserve open space and make costly improvements to water and sewer infrastructure in return for approval.

School officials from the Cornwall district came out in force against the proposal Tuesday because they fear the increase in houses will overburden their already crowded schools.

The Planning Board's next meeting is scheduled for April 30.
